This machine key features carbon steel construction and is designed for use on power transmission shafts to hold pulleys and gears tightly on the shaft. It helps provide driving torque and prevents movement. One part of the key fits into a precut slot in the shaft called a key seat. The remainder fits into a groove in the hub called a keyway.
